Under Cling

An under cling is a hold that requires the climber to adopt a palm upwards grip, rather than the more traditional palm downwards grip.  Under clings can be found outdoors and are very common on climbs indoors (as the setter simply has to rotate the hold 180 degrees).

The size and shape of the hold determines the correct way to hold an under cling, however a couple of common grips used include placing the thumb high on the outside of the hold, or simply using the fingers without the thumb.  Trying different styles of grip, can often help you to achieve a higher grade climb.
